Scaling Heights for a Cause: HobbyRig x Akyat Aral

At HobbyRig, we believe that the best journeys aren’t just about the miles on the odometer or the technicality of the trail—they’re about the impact we leave behind when the dust settles.

Recently, our team had the privilege of partnering with Akyat Aral for a meaningful mission to the heart of the Sierra Madre, visiting the Dumagat community in Rizal. This expedition proved that our rigs are capable of much more than just weekend adventures; they are tools for community building.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Albert Atienza

This mission would not have been possible without the vision and dedication of Albert Atienza. As the primary organizer of this event, Albert’s tireless efforts in coordination, logistics, and community outreach ensured that every donation reached the families who needed it most. We are honored to have worked alongside such a passionate leader in the local trail-advocacy scene.

The Mission: Beyond the Off-Road

While HobbyRig is usually focused on the gear and the builds that get us into the wild, this trip was about what we could bring to the wild. Akyat Aral has been doing incredible work bringing education and essential supplies to remote indigenous communities, and we knew we had to be a part of it.

The goal for the HobbyRig Akyat Aral Dumagat Community Rizal mission was simple but vital:

  • Educational Support: Distributing school supplies and books to young Dumagat students.

  • Community Care: Providing hygiene kits and basic necessities to local families.

  • Cultural Connection: Spending time with the community to learn about their traditions and the challenges they face in preserving their ancestral lands.

The Journey into Rizal’s Rugged Terrain

The trails in Rizal are legendary for their rugged beauty, but they also serve as a stark reminder of how isolated these communities can be. Navigating through river crossings and steep, muddy inclines, our rigs were loaded to the brim with supplies.

In these remote areas of the Philippines, a capable vehicle isn’t just a “hobby”—it’s a lifeline. Using our off-road equipment for a social cause gave every obstacle we conquered a deeper meaning.

“Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as we unloaded the bags made every rock-crawl and winch-out worth it. It reminds us that the off-roading community is at its best when we’re moving forward together.”

Supporting the Dumagat Community

The Dumagat people are the traditional stewards of the Rizal mountains. Despite their deep connection to the land, access to formal education remains a significant hurdle. By joining Akyat Aral, HobbyRig aims to bridge that gap, helping provide the tools necessary for the next generation of Dumagat leaders to thrive.

How You Can Help

The mission to support the indigenous communities in Rizal continues long after the rigs are washed and parked.

  • Donate: Send school supplies, books, or health kits via Akyat Aral.

  • Volunteer: Join the next trek and experience the impact of grassroots charity firsthand.

  • Raise Awareness: Share the stories of the Dumagat people to help protect their cultural heritage.

Final Thoughts

We also want to extend a special thank you to Nica Macasa for her incredible generosity in donating 200 pieces of canned goods. This contribution provided a huge boost to the food packs distributed to the families in the community.

A huge thank you again to Albert Atienza for organizing this event, to the Akyat Aral team for leading the way, and to the Dumagat community for welcoming us with open arms. This won’t be the last time HobbyRig hits the trails for a cause.

Adventure is better when it has a purpose.

Stay tuned for our next mission, and keep rigging for good!
